In August the 9th Kenton scouts went to Kandersteg in Switzerland.  Our group of 18 was part of the total of 605 scouts and guides from Greater London Middlesex West’s international expedition.  Our group included members of Pegasus Explorers, leaders from 4th Kenton and also Guides from 1st Queensbury.

We flew from Heathrow to Zurich where we then continued our journey by train to Kandersteg.  We arrived in the afternoon in the pouring rain, collected our kit that had been transported there for us by lorry, and set up our camp.  The weather stayed wet for the first few days with a few snow flurries but after that it cleared up for the rest of our time there.

The first day was a trip up into the mountains to a dry toboggan run followed by a hike to a beautiful mountain lake and finally a walk back to camp.  Other days our activities included the opening ceremony camp fire, an international disco evening, we went white water rafting, canyoning, climbing and an overnight hike up into the mountains staying in a mountain hut followed the following day by a hike over the top of the mountain and down into the next valley.  Further site activities included crate stacking, camp fires and the final closing ceremony.  Each day once we returned to our campsite we prepared our evening meal and ate together , then played games and relaxed in the mess tent.  Our last day was packing up camp before catching the train back to the airport and home.
